The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have jointly released an interagency publication which provides technical specifications for radiotherapy equipment commonly used in the treatment of cancer and itemized in the WHO Lists of priority medical devices for cancer management. The guidance, aimed at medical physicists, biomedical and clinical engineers, radiation oncologists, oncologists and anyone involved in manufacturing, planning, selecting, procuring, regulating, installing or using radiotherapy equipment, aims to ensure that the selection of radiotherapy equipment is appropriate to country and health facility contexts, that treatment is delivered safely, that quality is maintained, and that services are sustainable.
