Campaign title:
Campaign to Detect Breast Cancer Early
Description of the campaign:
This is a first-of-its-kind attempt to promote Breast health education through simultaneous campaigns in four northeastern states of India. These campaign involves creation of dedicated Breast clinic in individual states for the first time along with community involvement in practicing Breast Self-Exam. This is an unique attempt in the northeast which is developed, coordinated, monitored by CFI. This project aims at promoting cancer prevention initiative in Northeast Indian states with a view to initiate community-based breast cancer programmes in 4 states - Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura. This idea evolved from a workshop organised by Cancer Foundation of India and sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India. The project Co-PIs are drawn from the main government Hospital in respective states. Breast cancer is one of the major cancers among women in the Northeast therefore three projects will be on community advocacy and one is developing a breast clinic in the hospital. It is expected that such an exercise will translate into down - staging breast cancer at the time of clinical presentation.
